There have been a great number of presentations recently that I’ve been watching in the background as I do other chores such as reading the 1,000’s of blogs that I feel compelled to stay updated with (part of that is my job I suppose) and I noticed a few that seemingly “stuck” together. Building a small business is about a few things: Conversion Content marketing Influence And more… Well, here’s a few presentations that may help you close the gap this year as you grow your own independent WordPress business or practice – enjoy!
It’s fun to watch people within our community talk about other people within our community, right? It has a flavor of inception, doesn’t it? No, I’m just playing. Jeff Chandler from WPTavern spent some time with the guys over at Dradcast recently and shared his thoughts and perspectives about being bought by Matt (and him being his new boss) as well as monetizing a blog (among other things). It’s worth a watch.
Man, shed another tear? Nope, not me. Another blogging system, this one called Jux, has hit the lowest of low and offered their apologies as they plan to shutdown their service next month: Your work has brought meaning to us, to millions of others, and hopefully to you. By providing a creative layer on top of words and images, Jux has helped you build narratives, hold attention, and connect people. Unfortunately, Jux has not grown fast or large enough to attract further investment. The service will close on August 31, 2013. Bummer. What a crazy interruption it’ll cause for many […]
Oh, the goodies keep on coming! We shared the announcement of the new and very neat opening of Authentic Themes and how they are really not “just another theme shop,” especially with their large launch portfolio. The guys have reached out to us and offered to give our community the chance to with 3 lifetime accounts! Yes, we’ll take it!
Perhaps you’re familiar with Fiverr, the very simple (and popular) service and marketplace for people to do ______________ starting at $5.00 has now seen a clone in the making related to WordPress. I’m not sure how relevant the returns are on this site though as the latest gig was about 20 days or so ago by the site owner himself, paulgc34 – who is tough to pin down exactly but it seems he’s been “around” the web in some places.
I suppose it’s true – WordPress makes publishing better, just like bacon makes any meal better, right? Throw in the mix of a bunch of guys talking about both of them in podcast form and you may have an overnight winner! Check it out – this isn’t a joke:
In a short announcement it seems that Automattic has acquired Poster App, an iPhone / iPad publishing system that was built by Tom Witkin: I’m elated to share that I, along with Poster, will be joining Automattic. I’ll be working with the mobile team where I’ll be both designing and coding. So what’s changing? Poster will no longer be available for purchase, but if you’ve already bought the app you’ll always be able to re-download it. I’m continuing to support it, and I’m always just an email away if you’ve got any questions. We’ve covered it before and I’ve used it myself – […]
Against bloat in WordPress? Yes, so am I. Perhaps you should help us all end the “epidemic” that is WordPress Theme bloat (if you care enough about it) and grab the badge that’ll make it official:
It’s that time again! Let’s just jump right in – you’ve got a weekend to take advantage of and so do I – like do nothing, that’s what! Just kidding. “Weekend,” what is that?!
Responsive layouts and design is in vogue right now, especially in the WordPress space where most themes now are coming with responsive built right in. But what about all those other themes (legacy) that don’t have responsive built-in? You could certainly use one of the mobile plugins but I’ve never been a big fan of those, at least personally. Perhaps there’s a plugin for that…
