I’ve been taking a look at the new Genericons so as to see if I want to use them in any new and upcoming projects and as a result I’ve spent some time also looking for alternatives. Icons for the web and mobile devices as well as Retina display use cases have increased in popularity and I wanted to make sure I could stay up to date as possible. Man, do you remember when it was so much more simple? Sheesh! Well, Natko Hasić dropped us a line last weekend and let us know that as a WordPress designer and developer he […]
Brad Parbs sent us a note that I thought was neat enough to cover as the Theme Hook Alliance continues to grow it’s influence around the WordPress neighborhood. And besides, he told us that we should share it – and so, we’re sharing it (besides, he’s a “rockstar,” at least via his own website)! Recently he just added all of the hooks from the Alliance into the starter theme, called “_s,” to make everyone happy.
Have you heard of DesktopServer via ServerPress before? Apparently I’ve been under a rock or something because this weekend was the first time I’ve ever heard of it. Drat, because there are a few instances where I could have really used this application. Alas, I was not aware of it at time! What is DeskTopServer? Simple: It gives you the ability to create virtual servers locally for all of your WordPress projects. I’m a big fan of MAMP but the Pro version is the one that allows multiple instances.
via Brian Krogsgard. Much more simple than other online systems like this. It might be helpful for those who are contracting or are getting started with their contract work to figure out a decent price to charge.
A short but sweet interview with Matt Mullenweg at SXSW. He talks about working from home, making money, and more. Take 9 minutes this busy Monday morning and give it a watch. Ah, Austin – I miss you so much.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0JF4QxPpvM&feature=youtu.be You’ve probably seen this video being shared a few times already but if you haven’t you’ll notice an Envato property being used as an example of “one” of those Photoshop-centric sites that are helping graphic artists mask “real beauty” with filters and actions. What their campaign is simply about is reminding us that our real beauty doesn’t have to be altered.
Yikes. It’s been a busy Saturday and I’m finally getting around to compiling our weekly review of content that we didn’t get to cover explicitly over the last 7 days. In a good way I’m glad as I spent most of my time today with family. Soccer games, a date with one of my daughters, and then the park with my other one has left me spent. I hope your weekend has been as eventful as mine already as well!
PressBooks, that incredible WordPress plugin that helps authors create ebooks, PDFs, and web-based books with a few clicks has announced that they are going completely open source with a full GPL 2.0 license. It’s been in the works for quite some time and many have wondered when it was going to drop (if ever) but Hugh McGuire has silenced those critics a few weeks ago with his announcement. The reason? Simple: For book publishing to evolve to fully embrace digital, we need open tools that allow for experimentation with new technologies, and new models, business and otherwise. We are building […]
Every startup needs traffic because traffic creates users, customers, and perhaps more importantly, fans. And a customer testimonial or big-name blog helps with that traffic wave, right? It kind of makes your startup more “legit” in some sense, right? Well, not always, but it can provide some confidence for those new customers who are just viewing your site for the first time. And hey, wouldn’t you know, but there’s an “app” (or web service) for those testimonials.
We’ve shared before the incredible news that 17% of the top 1,000,000 sites are now powered by WordPress – and that number is growing every single day. It’s an unbelievable time to be using WordPress and we are all riding a decidely-large wave of adoption that’s been growing over the last several years. Wherever you host, regardless of size, if you’re using WordPress then you are a part of a fantastic and passionate community that is just as successful as the next – and this community is definitely international. What’s fascinating is that although WordPress is a world-wide community the […]
