Like many of you I spend most of my time (and my living) sitting behind a computer and writing things with my hot little hands. I love the work that I do and I get to spend a lot of my time with a great team, which makes it all the better. On occasion I get invited to speak publicly, keynote events, and share my opinions about certain topics – I’m still baffled that anyone cares to invite me in the first place as there are many more professional speakers out there that can do a much better job than I. I’m […]
Hope you guys are getting ready for the weekend because not only is it a holiday (if you’re in the US) but Monday is the 10th Anniversary Party! Dig it! So until then, chew on some of these links while you wait to party!
Now isn’t this a clever idea? Why not boot the WordPress Game Show via Detroit’s 2011 WordCamp at the 10th Anniversary Party that you’re having on Monday? Of course, no cheating!
Pressnomics, one of the few events that focus exclusively on WordPress and business, is fast approaching and the invitations are being sent out as we speak – in fact, you may already have them if you’re close by and local to Josh and his team. It’s open to everyone but there are some people and organizations that they are trying to explicitly encourage to show up at the event: While the event is open to all WordPress-centric business owners, we feel it is important to try to ensure specific people are in attendance: Those that are actively shaping and driving […]
In a blog post this morning Matt Mullenweg, one of the founders of WordPress, shares that Tiger Global has invested over $50M in his company, Automattic. This isn’t a new capital round or series round – rather, it’s based on secondary stock purchases so that earlier investors can “lock in some returns” which releases pressure for a much larger liquidity event. Tiger Global joins the likes of Polaris Partners, True Ventures, Radar Partners, and the New York Times Company all who have stake in the growing company. As Toni Schneider shares in his blog post, Tiger isn’t a small player (although a more “behind the scenes” […]
WordPress security is top-of-mind with a lot of people lately with the big botnet scare that’s apparently still happening in pockets here and there. That’s why we have companies like Sucuri and their great staff that are constantly monitoring the security landscape for those that don’t know about it until it’s too late. Dre Armeda is leading a lot of that charge and in an oldie-but-goodie presentation from WordCamp Atlanta 2012 that finally got uploaded to WP.tv he goes over End-User security that’s worth a look:
There’s been some conversation about having a “better” planet and it’s been a great topic of conversation among blogs as well as in internal conversations here in our office. For those that need a quick recap, the WordPress Planet is a feed that sources content from a number of blogs and sites and aggregates them into one central location here at http://planet.wordpress.org/. It’s an old and outdated place of aggregation as many of the sites and blogs are either defunct, rarely update, or do not post about WordPress anymore. As James shared as he broke down the blogs and outlined their “effectiveness” […]
Galleries. Who doesn’t love galleries? We use them all the time here and with some of the new carousel options for thumbnails and the like it’s getting pretty slick to use it via Jetpack and the many other plugins out there that’ll give you those features. But WordPress isn’t the only one thinking galleries, some like Posthaven are introducing their version and it’s not too bad, right?
We are so very close to May 27th that it hurts! I’m so excited about all of the amazing 10 Year Anniversary Parties that are happening all around the globe, especially ours here in Atlanta – it’s actually really neat to see that we’re in the Top 10 biggest parties worldwide. This fact is both awesome and sad since I wouldn’t consider Atlanta to be one of the largest WordPress cities out there, but perhaps we’re a passionate bunch. In any case, we’re having a nice shindig planned and have a custom WordPress cake being created (I hope… who’s overseeing that again guys?!) and […]
It may be too early in the morning for you to have had time to update but you’re going to want to definitely take a look at your dash and notice two updates to two very popular plugins came in late yesterday. The first is that Gravity Forms v1.7.4 has dropped which has resolved some issues with notifications as well as brought a few additions: Added support for object methods to the JavaScript hook framework. Updated POT file translation file. Fixed bug in sending notifications when a form field is chosen. Great work guys! Secondly, you’re going to want to […]
