After the obviously-large brute force attack on thousands of WordPress blogs we have all been dramatically reminded (some more than others) that security is a must-have for WordPress sites. Not only that, it’s forced many of us to rethink the level of security that WordPress natively brings to the table and, of course, whether it’s “enough” to stop a massive attack from being effective again. I love how the community, together, has come up with a variety of resources, plugins, and suggestions that will not only stabilize and future-proof against entry but has also come up with solutions that target […]
The web is a wonderfully-mysterious thing, full of strangeness and entertainment and actual resources at times. It’s the latter that is the most impressive as it’s chock-full of people willing to give their time and energy to others via their own work. That’s why I like covering the “freebies” the most as it plays nicely with our open source philosophy around WordPress, you know what I mean? So when I saw Chris Bannister’s free responsive wireframe photoshop file I knew that I needed to make sure that our community had an opportunity to get a copy for their own use […]
Sometimes you just need an infographic that engages the visual senses a bit more so that you can actually “get” the information to sit squarely in your brain long enough to retain it, am I right? Thanks to Hostgator, of all places, this might be one worth passing around if you’ve got clients, customers, or even your parents who are curious about what the “heck” that you actually do with your life. Check it out after the jump:
Oh yeah! bbPress continues to move forward with strong development moving into a mature 2.3 with over 150 fixes and enhancements since 2.2. Although, the comment form on this announce post is showing a few issues with such things as search. I would review carefully the changes listed out and upgrade with a possibility of reverting back if things get too ugly for you.
Feeling a bit distracted on this Monday morning? Yes, me too. In an ever-increasing fight to stay focused on the things that need to get done I have to actively reduce and pare down things that are causing those disruptions. For example, a recent absolute life-saver is turning the “Do Not Disturb” feature on via my iPhone and never turning it off. Thus, I don’t get interrupted by anything, except for those on my VIP list (like my wife). I was perusing some sites to look for other quick and helpful tips this past weekend and passed on this Hierarchy […]
Dieter Rams is a legend among legends in the design community, a community that I oftentimes peer into but have never really been a part of. Being an engineer primarily and not even on the same planet as a designer, I marvel at great product design and some of the insanity that many of you create via your designer toolkits and what not. But it’s not that I can’t find inspiration or learn a thing or two from all of you and even such luminaries as Dieter Rams. It’s been oft-shared his principles of design and I found inspiration afresh […]
With the recent news of MOJO Themes being acquired we knew that there would be some news coming from them about some of the neat stuff that they are planning on doing since the acquisition. Well, we can wonder no more because they’ve announced a new MOJO Marketplace that’ll be coming soon. They’ve been working on it for quite some time which will be perfectly integrated with Endurance’s hosting companies (the acquiring company). Sellers might want to get ready because the opportunity to insert yourself into millions of customer’s dashboards might be too good to pass up. It’ll be a […]
WerkPress was formed in 2011 to create a WordPress-focused studio capable of providing any WordPress service needed: from consultation, strategy and design, to development and maintenance. We currently have 14 people in-house and have become one of the leading WordPress customization shops in the world. Our office houses both the WerkPress team and sister company, Westwerk. We designed and built the space ourselves which took six months to complete, though the last three months were particularly hard because we were conducting business during the construction.
We shared a new WordPress-centric book yesterday by Heather Wallace that was brought to our attention and Heather was lovely enough to want to share it with even more people here in this community. As a result, we’re giving away 3 copies of the book (digital) here on WP Daily. Here’s a brief synopsis of what you will find in the Geekified Guide to WordPress:
Crazy week, right? It’s been one for the record books for me personally as I’ve been attempting to finalize a Kickstarter campaign and project that has pretty much hijacked my entire life. At some point I’ll have a massive retrospective, but I’m exhausted with only a day or so to go. But naturally there’s been more news than just Kickstarter project – here are some of the things that happened this previous week that you may not have gotten to see. Oh, and by the way, make sure you’re aware of the big super bot that’s attempting to access your […]
