Daniel, who was part of the VIP Services team at Automattic, has announced that he’s left the role just shy of two years of employment there. Citing the fact that he hasn’t felt like his personal growth was at an acceptable pace he’s looking for a more “challenging opportunity,” one that will push him to “learn, grow, and lead.” Daniel is a guy that most of this team subscribe to and he’s incredibly bright and eager to move on to the next big thing – he’s even open to hearing about new opportunities, so feel free to drop him a […]
Much kudos and congrats go to Dominik Schilling as it’s been announced that he’s been given guest commit access for the rest of the 3.6 development cycle. As Andrew Nacin shares, Dominik has been contributing for 3 years+ and they’ve been quality contributions none-the-less: If you’ve had a chance to work with him, you probably noticed at least two things: calm judgment and biting sarcasm. I’ve found that the beta period is his bread-and-butter — he goes around polishing and fixing everything he can get his hands on. He’s also taken one for the team more than once on things […]
Can there ever be too many WordPress meetups, parties, or get togethers? The answer is easily “no”! Well, let’s make a go of it, shall we? On May 27th of this year we’re going to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of WordPress (since the very first release) and it’s going global baby! Via Meetup Everywhere you can get connected in your local area to have a party as people around the globe celebrate the awesomeness that is WordPress. There are already 66 WordPress Anniversary parties and more to be started I’m sure by the time we get close to the day. […]
WordSesh 2013 is right around the corner – have you gotten your comfy seat ready as well as a full six pack prepared (soda or beer, your choice) for 24 hours of WordPress insanity? They’ve got a brand-spankin’ new site to stare at, an amazing lineup of speakers (check out their talks!), and the fact that it’ll all be archived for future review and viewing. Brad and Dre, from the fabled DradCast will be opening it up strongly with Scott Basgaard joining them. 100% free, no costs involved (although if you want to donate to the foundation to support it that would […]
Things are continuing to move steadily ahead with development and the release of the Windows Phone v2.1. You’ll need OS 7.5 and above to use it, of course. With this release we see the ability now to not only get push notifications but the ability to have these notifications take you directly to the comment itself to moderate and/or respond to the community member. You also see the rich text editor that many people have requested. You’ll have styling options beneath the keyboard and in the app menu itself for your publishing pleasure. And as usual, you get a number […]
Or at least it’ll be deprecated and out of the picture since 2010, but it’ll be officially removed May 19th, 2013. You should definitely head over and get to version 3.0 before that time: The Google Maps JavaScript API Version 2 has been officially deprecated as of May 19, 2010. The V2 API will continue to work until May 19, 2013. We encourage you to migrate your code to version 3 of the Maps JavaScript API. The Google Maps API lets you embed Google Maps in your own web pages with JavaScript. The API provides a number of utilities for manipulating maps (just like on […]
We capture new releases of plugins in our daily roundups so we typically don’t call out any specific plugin but this one came across our desk via Poststatus that was worth a second look. So what is it? Just another media plugin for WordPress? Well, yes and no. You see, with Uber Media you’ll have integrated support for Flickr, Instagram, 500px, and Dribbble and be able to drop images into your blog post with ease. For those that have accounts in these services then this might be an incredible boon and time-saver for you. Check out the overview video for more info:

What is it like to work at/for Automattic? Erick Hitter shares his experience.
It’s been a wild first quarter here at WP Daily and the growth has been pretty insane. I shared in a contributor newsletter earlier this week that we almost crossed the 100,000 pageview mark for a single month last month – the trend data is pretty mind-numbing to be honest. Who would have thought that just a few months ago (December, 2012) we’d be seeing six-digit figures in terms of traffic? We didn’t even exist 6 months ago! And it’s all thanks to the growing and passionate community that we’ve got here and the great writing and contributions of our […]
