One of the first blogs that I ever subscribed to that had consistent content aimed squarely at the WordPress user and developer was Weblogtoolscollection – it had not only great content but a growing and active community of sharing and collaboration. It has since become a staple within the WordPress community and one of the largest sources of news, historically. For those that have been around for awhile you know that it has slowed down a pitch and is no longer the dominant news source for all things WordPress – although still very valuable with hundreds of articles that have historical […]
Yet another incredibly busy week for us at WP Daily and the rest of the 8BIT team – as much as we hate to admit it, we’re still somewhat recovering from WordCamp Atlanta that finished a few weeks ago – all those calls and meetings and things that we had hoped to get done were pushed back and we’re finally knocking them out, one-by-one. But we’ll get there. I’m sure of it. Without further ado, here’s a look at the past week and some of the stories that we weren’t able to cover explicitly:
One of the things that are absolutely essential to my personal workflow is music – I’ve shared here, here, and especially here about this in the past. There’s almost no time where there isn’t some music playing in our office or in our own personal eardrums. I tweeted the other day though my particular headphones that I use and I got enough responses asking me what they are in particular that I decided to share it via a post. The issue is I spend an hour of time trying to actually find the exact pair that I own and sadly they are […]
Now this is a neat addition – ShopLocket, a simple way to sell “anything” from a website, is now partnered with WordPress.com enabling blog and site owners to sell, well, “anything” from their own sites. To enable this brave new world of blog-based e-commerce, ShopLocket has introduced a WordPress plugin that will enable users of the platform to quickly make their goods available on their sites. With the integration, WordPress.com Enterprise and VIP users will be able to easily embed items for sale anywhere they wish to, whether that be in posts, separate pages, or even through various sidebars on […]
Do you know about SVGs? Here’s your quick primer if you need a refresh: SVG is a language for describing two-dimensional graphics in XML [XML10]. SVG allows for three types of graphic objects: vector graphic shapes (e.g., paths consisting of straight lines and curves), images and text. Graphical objects can be grouped, styled, transformed and composited into previously rendered objects. The feature set includes nested transformations, clipping paths, alpha masks, filter effects and template objects. What happens, in a nutshell, is that you can begin to work with graphics in ways that have been previously difficult or impossible to do. […]
Our websites exist so that we may be able to share a message, a product, or something of value with our readers. our intention is to keep them there as long as possible so that they can fully understand what we’ve created for them and why we’ve invested all that time, money, and resources. But what if you’re actually making them leave your website due to some simple and basic design mistakes? What if you’re actually making them more confused about why they even clicked that link from Twitter in the first place? Take a look at the following infographic […]
Big news today folks: Mojoness, Inc., the company behind the very popular Mojo-Themes.com and Mojo-code.com, has been acquired by Endurance International Group in a press release earlier today. There plans with the acquisition? To integrate the Mojo-based products into their own technology and platform to then sell to their customers. I wasn’t aware of who EIG was but a quick search is revealing – they are a large cloud-based provider of services to small and medium-sized businesses, including hosting solutions. So what this means, I gather, is that Mojo themes will be “integrated” or offered as value-adds to their existing product […]
Move over Jetpack lite – the recent update of Jetpack 2.2.1 now has what tons of developers have been asking for: Developer Mode, where you can activate the plugin on a local environment for testing and all that fun stuff. People have been waiting a long time for this and now it’s finally here: Turn on Development Mode right now by adding define( ‘JETPACK_DEV_DEBUG’, true);to your wp-config.php file. A quick note: development mode automatically gets enabled if you don’t have a period in your site’s hostname, i.e. localhost. If you use a different URL, such asmycooltestsite.local or something, it is then that you will need […]
TechCrunch shared some news that made me crack a big smile as I read it: In the past 30 days alone, 15 million posts have been imported into the platform [WordPress.com]. The top two services that tend to migrate to WordPress are Blogger and Tumblr, Mullenweg tells me. And then there is Posterous. It’s neat to see how many people are finding WordPress as a go-to solution for their blogging needs and yet how many try another service first, either out of ignorance of WordPress’ existence or because they didn’t feel like it “solved” their felt needs. But I wish more […]
Hey, that rhymes! BuddyPress has hit their RC1 Candidate and is going to be incredibly exciting for the thousands upon thousands of users who use BuddyPress for their sites: BuddyPress 1.7 is going to be one of our most exciting releases to date. It comes packaged with the same theme compatibility that was introduced in bbPress 2.0, which means that BuddyPress will now work out-of-the-box with a majority of the WordPress themes available today. This is going to be a really big deal. In terms of bbPress, what I’m excited are the forum migration tools that are being released:
