Republic of Colombia Uses WordPress
It appears that yet again another large government site is being powered by WordPress – hopefully this one didn’t cost them millions of dollars – but at least the Republic of Colombia is using a free theme so perhaps they saved some cost there. They are using Dessign.net’s Font Folio Theme for their base style and look:
Matt Mullenweg on DradCast, Interfaces and Evolution
Last night the hosts of DradCast had Matt Mullenweg on for 71 minutes of discussion around interfaces, evolution, and the future of WordPress. Tuning in from one of the “best” internet connections via South Africa Matt spent some time discussing many things at length as well as answering community questions. He even mentioned the 8 year anniversary of Automattic, incorporated March 28, 2005! If you’ve got the time it’s well worth it:
Draft.in Adds WordPress Support, Chrome Extension
Now this is probably the best news that I’ve seen all day – Draft.in, an incredibly simple collaborative writing application that we covered extensively, has announced that they now have the ability to publish directly to WordPress. Getting there is quite simple – head to your settings tab and hit the Places to Publish button. Add your credentials and you’re good to go. Adding the blog was quick and easy; no problems here!

What We Can Learn From PyCon
By now you may have already encountered and/or read more than your fair share of the PyCon cluster-wah and how it all went down with developers, a “joke,” a picture, a tweet, and a technology evangelist. The net result of the Adria Richards vs “Dongles” was that she was relieved of her job at SendGrid as well as the developer who made the comment. For sure, this isn’t the first time that Adria Richards has publicly come forward and shared her perspective with others and I imagine it won’t be her last – for example, she once made this comment […]
Thoughts on Killing wp_tag_cloud()
I’ll just say it: I think tag clouds suck. At one point in time they were definitely seen as the cat’s pajamas, the soup du jour, and a general icon of the Web 2.0 movement (remember that?!). But now I think they have very little place in our economy – their usage statistics and engagement statistics are terrible. And sadly I would know since I used them heavily when they first came out and yet their click-through rates were paltry, to say the least. Not to mention that they were ugly as sin, and still are. There has never been […]
5 Mobile-Centric Infographics to Get You Going
Have you started on your mobile version yet? Why not? Making a mobile-ready version of your website is something that every company should be actively thinking about if not actually building at this very moment. Sure, there are cases where a mobile version or even a responsive design doesn’t make sense but it has to be a part of the strategic conversations that are floating around the office as there’s a lot of reason and justification for the time and financial investment. The simple fact is that there is no stopping the growth pattern of mobile adoption – so jump […]
Retro Game Cartridge Pillows? Yes Please.
You already know that we’re a bunch of nerds who are faking their way into a real business so there’s no real shame in sharing a few things that cross our paths that we really get high over. Or perhaps that’s just me (hopefully my team will back me up on this). Someone shared via Twitter some killer retro game cartridge pillows and I had to have them. So, I bought them – they’ll be here shortly. Take a look at these and tell me you aren’t tempted to throw your wallet out and scream: Shut up and take my money! Right?
Preliminary Handbook Design Comp Released
The folks that are developing the awesome new handbooks are continuing to put their heart and soul into the work and we see steady updates on the progress over at make.wordpress on a very consistent basis. I’m stoked to see that a very robust design composite for the new look of the handbook has just been released which includes much of the formatting and design elements that you can expect when you see the final product. Take a look at this bad boy:
Taking Preorders: The WordPress Cycling Kit
We shared nearly 2 months ago that a neat new initiative around cyclists and those who love 2 wheelers would be coming online in a bit and they’ve announced that their store is open! The WordPress Cycling Kit is now open for pre-orders which must get in April 7th, so if you’re considering it you have to purchase soon. What’s neat is that they did eventually get the approval from the WordPress Foundation for the initiative and so it’s backing is secure! The stuff looks great and for those that want to represent WordPress while on the road this is a […]
