Adii Pienaar took some time out with The East Wing and talked about how he got started with computers, his constant tinkering with new ideas, how culture impacts a great business, and how this played into the development of WooThemes. I love this interview because it really provided a lot of backstory for how it got started (with Mark Forrester and Magnus Jepson). Take a listen after the jump:
Every single week it seems that I encounter even more solutions that help bloggers and WordPress site owners manage their sites. Today’s new player is Worpit, another notification and updating system that you might find useful. This is very much a similar product like ManageWP and WPRemote. What you might find here though that’s a nice addition are the opportunities to optimize your database and backups to leverage, something that WPRemote doesn’t have for example. Take a look at these screens:
Occasionally I’m asked how I get my work done and the process and methods by which I accomplish the many tasks that are required of me during the day. The honest truth is that it changes. All the time. I’m not as regimented as people believe and I’m not sold out to any particular for of GTD or productivity app. I’ll try this and that, experiment here, try that app there, but you’ll really never hear me consistently extolling the virtues of one over another, especially over a consistent amount of time. I’m not systematic although I do enjoy and […]
I’ve only trademarked one other thing for another business and that was because it was incredibly obvious that we should – it was a term that was previously trademarked and part of a domain URL that we purchased for 5-figures. We lucked out in that the previous owner of the trademark didn’t renew their registration and it had expired literally months before we started looking into it. Like I said, we totally lucked into it. But I’ve never trademarked any of the WordPress-centric businesses that I’ve run and even here at WP Daily I’m hesitant to consider it. I’m not […]

The first time I heard of the Yeoman stack I nearly laughed out loud – for those that aren’t inclined to enjoy language arts (yes, that was me in school) “yeoman” is a word that doesn’t exactly describe a client-side stack: A man holding and cultivating a small landed estate; a freeholder A person qualified for certain duties and rights, such as to serve on juries and vote for the knight of the shire, by virtue of possessing free land of an annual value of 40 shillings A servant in a royal or noble household, ranking between a sergeant and […]
It’s no secret that our team here loves to play as hard as we work – in fact, philosophically it’s one of the reasons that we founded our company and named it 8BIT – we believed that our greatest work would be done when we saw it as “play” – in other words, we could work in an environment and on products that were just as fun as the entertainment that we loved. It’s where recreation meets our vocation meets our occupation, in a number of ways. As a result, we’ve made a lot of decisions based on that rubric and foundation and are hyper-critical […]
First-off, big congrats to Siobhan and her new role, which started this week! Audrey Capital, the angel investment firm led by Matt Mullenweg, will give Siobhan a full-time role which means that she’ll be putting “pause” on her Words for WP contract firm for the time being. What will Siobhan be doing instead? Well, she’ll be doing a lot of what she’s already been doing except on a much bigger scale (and perhaps paycheck): It’s no surprise to anyone that one of my focuses is going to be working on WordPress documentation. This will be in terms of planning and […]
The dust has cleared in more than a few ways since the GPL debate became a big discussion point in the last few months and I believe everyone is breathing a little easier knowing that some of the major issues have been resolved. Or, at the very least, things are moving back to a point of equilibrium among the larger parties involved. The active and passionate discussion will continue to circle over our heads since we’ll never be completely clear of it as long as WordPress continues to be licensed under the GPL. What’s fascinating is to note that these […]
[wpvideo 8twCJVmH] Every so often we share a few great WordPress presentations via a local WordCamp that many of you may find of value and something that all of us can appreciate is better performance for WordPress sites. One of the previous presentations also focused on scaling and speed.
