South by Southwest is coming oh so shortly and unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this year. Drat. Now, I feel like I have some really good reasons behind that, namely, WordCamp Atlanta 2013, so I’m not losing out too badly. But it’s always been a good show and an incredible atmosphere to be a part of. The digital and interactive piece is not a mainstay in the belly of high tech yearly conferences and a lot of innovation and disruptive technologies are showcased each year to a hungry audience. Automattic will be there as well and they are […]
We referenced CoSchedule previously and didn’t have much information at that time because it was just a sneak peek but we’ve finally heard a few sound bytes from them over at their blog about what they are planning on releasing and it keeps getting better and better. Our goal is to ease the scheduling frustrations that come with blogging, social media, working in a team, and even email marketing. We believe that scheduling should be easy, intuitive, and even a little bit fun. It seems that CoSchedule is going to be a management solution for your blog’s content – and […]
That is what was apparently spent on $40 theme in what appears to be a massive misuse of government funds. The website, Free State Online (having some issues being pulled up – must be getting hit hard with load times), was the provincial government that spent nearly $15MM (R140MM) on it’s newly designed website. The contract, a 3-year deal signed 2 years ago. It is argued that it wasn’t $140MM but rather $40M, but that’s still over $4 million dollars for a website. Whatever it may be the margin for the contractor is still a little “high”:
We’ve experimented with a few live blogging events here on WP Daily and our experiments are still being played out as we work with more and more WordCamp event organizers and fiddle with the live blog plugin that we’ve got running during the events, and we thought we had a sweet deal going! But the guys over at Ars Technica have really upped the ante with their in-house developed solution which allows some significant functionality beyond what I’ve seen or used myself. For example, The liveblog tool is a WordPress plugin that Marlin and Aylward wrote from scratch and it […]
First off, congrats to the WooCommerce team that has been working incredibly hard to release such a significant update as a 2.0! The release contains an incredibly amount of improvements and features that make it a serious contender in the growing list of eCommerce and commerce-centric payment gateway solutions. It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what I like the best out of the newly minted 2.0, especially because I’ve been using it with smaller projects and even client work, not to mention even using it for 8BIT as a solution, but I’m loving the idea of increased security auditing by Sucuri.
A small reminder that if you’re using the popular Boostrap framework for your WordPress Themes that you include the right licensing details in your license details. This was brought up by Chip Bennett related to Apache and GPL compatibility, although it’s worth noting that Bootstrap is moving to MIT license. We use Bootstrap here on WP Daily as a child theme off Standard Theme so this applies to us as well.
To understand the future of blogging one must be reminded from whence we came – @dbierbrauer gives us a fascinating look backwards (and then forwards). From her presentation, it starts here with USENETS and moves on from there. For those that are even old enough to remember USENET then this might be a trip down memory lane!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1XhC2cJ2LE There are very few words from me here. Cringeworthy? I think so.
Hope you guys had a great week! It’s already into March, can you believe it? We’re nearly 25% of the way through 2013. Someone pinch me, seriously, because it’s moving way too fast. Here’s your weekly rundown of what you may have missed that wasn’t explicitly covered here on WP Daily. Let us know if we missed anything or if we need to subscribe to a particular blog and what not! I think you should at least take a look at #3, $22, #24, and #26. Those are must-reads, especially #24 on remote management.
Are you an Envato author and would like to know when you make a sale, get a comment, or even a referral so you can engage with your customers better? Then Leafping might be your next purchase – it’s a sweet iOS and Android notification app and plugin that provides not just notifications on your mobile device but also a robust dashboard as well. The cost? It’s a bit like choose-your-own-adventure style where you can pay the Leafping authors anywhere between $5.00 and $20, depending on how useful you feel the service will be for you. It’s a neat model […]
