They say that entrepreneurs are a rare breed, that if everyone could be one then everyone would be one. I understand why people would believe this to be true but I believe that entrepreneurship can actually be taught instead of just inherited like a magic gene or something else as equally cosmic. In fact, besides mentoring and coaching existing entrepreneurs and walking with them through their current projects and ventures I’ve been spending time helping others fully embrace their inner-entrepreneur and teaching them the mechanics of building their own futures and products. But that doesn’t mean it is easy by any stretch […]
The future of education is with online technology and there are fewer and better things to be innovating on than just that. Now, WordPress.com offers that opportunity for any educator with specific themes and features that will make learning even more effective. It appears, on the outside at least, that this is yet another channel and market strategy hoping to capitalize on unique and focused niches that might appeal to certain individuals. In this case, the educational market that is a trillion dollar market. With themes like Chalkboard and Runo Lite that make it look very classroom-like a teacher (or […]
Apparently after 2 office hours a consensus has been reached in terms of the new look of post revisions, as reported by Erick Hitter. It’s neat to see the slider with previous / next coming into play as this is a much different approach than our current implementation. They are still working on the UI for comparing two different revisions:
As the team starts creating their own unique work environments in the new office we’re bringing in personal items that will help us do our best work. I, for one, have allergies like no one’s business, especially during this season and it’s driving me literally insane. As a result, I have a bunch of water misters and humidifiers at home that I use. But, I didn’t want to embarrass myself by bringing in one of my epic frog humidifiers so I haven’t been sure what to do. Luckily my wife has come through and found me a cute portable one:
An interesting discussion is brewing over at Trac about the new Twitter Importer which many users have been looking forward to for their own WordPress-powered properties: This ticket is to track the development of a plugin that can import tweets from a downloaded twitter.com archive. Presumably, such a plugin would be added to the importers list on wp-admin/import.php. The gist of the conversations so far that have interested me is the discussion of whether these should be imported as posts, which is the original proposed implementation, or another view presented by Mike Schinkel:
The Creative Market, a very neat looking marketplace that has a very Etsy-like feel to it, has announced that they are in full compliance with the GPL moving from their original single license called SimpleLicense. But it wasn’t GPL compatible which had lead to some changes: But we also recognize that not all products on Creative Market are alike, especially when it comes to WordPress themes. That’s why starting today, all WordPress themes sold on Creative Market will come with a 100% GPL license. WordPress itself was built on (and would not have been possible without) the GPL license, which works to ensure rights […]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVO-drgYPGA&feature=youtu.be Or, at least, it’s just me doing it. I mean, I had to at least participate in this never-ending meme. I just didn’t think that my partners would be that enthusiastic at the idea. Alas, I went ahead and did it myself.
An alternative directory of plugins you say? Yikes! Well, it’s launching tonight at the NYC WordPress meetup officially. Apparently it’ll be the first directory of sorts that makes the actual usage data, at least via Bostjan Spetic who shared this news with us. The plans is that it’ll include a “superb” search engine that’ll help you find the best plugin for the job. It’s a completely independent and not-for-profit project.
Brian has created a thread for those that are looking to hire a WordPress-related designer / developer – I cleverly call this: LFWP (Looking for WordPress’er). Head over there and drop your name or company profile in the comments and see if you can get some top-shelf talent. Thanks Brian for doing that. Word to your mothers.
It’s come to the forefront again as more than a few services that power WordPress sites specifically have experienced some downtime in the last week. As Jason Cohen from WP Engine rightly states, 100% uptime is “perfection unattainable”: Nobody wants downtime, and customers who are paying for a hosting solution have a right to ask and be informed about a company’s history of downtime. In particular, people want to know who has the least uptime, or if there is a company that has achieved 100% uptime. The reality is that 100% uptime, while the goal that every company sets its […]
