We’re excited that in less than a month from now we’ll be having our epic Atlanta-based WordCamp, which is going to be just a few blocks away from WP Daily’s editorial offices. We couldn’t be more stoked – and registration is now available. The tickets are going pretty fast so you’ll want to make sure you get your soon.
The guys over at VaultPress have been busy with two updates recently that you may want to take note of, the first being the fact that the system now alerts you of missing unique keys and salt strings in your wp-config.php file. For the uninitiated your unique and salt keys are specifically built to help increase security of your site installation. What they do essentially is help encrypt the information stored in your visitor’s cookies. You can actually use an auto-generator to create these as well if you self-host your blog, although a set should be auto-generated for you on […]
Caleb Mellas over at Webinsation had a fairly long post about his perspective on WordPress as a CMS detailing how he thought WordPress ultimately drops the ball from a number of angles. I was going to offer my thoughts in response but since there doesn’t appear to be any direct commenting system available I thought I’d bring the conversation over here (if there’s one to be had). There were a few great points of note on HackerNews as well, to be sure. WordPress has gone through a lot of changes in the past few years and has been moving up the […]
Cristi Burcă, otherwise known as scribu, has shared a fantastic resource for unit testing your plugin with an easy-to-understand system for automating and setting up this “chore” that most plugin developers never really get around to. With a simple command you can download the configure the WordPress testing library and get your testing done so that you don’t have to deal with as many issues when it gets released publicly, because it’s not nice to get hate mail from angry users about your broken plugin, right?
wp scaffold plugin-tests <your-plugin>
And I understand it, I really do. I don’t like […]

Fascinating how blog platforms come and go, right? As many of you have been made aware, Posterous has gone the way of the deadpool and will be permanently closed in less than 2 months time: On April 30th, we will turn off posterous.com and our mobile apps in order to focus 100% of our efforts on Twitter. This means that as of April 30, Posterous Spaces will no longer be available either to view or to edit. Right now and over the next couple months until April 30th, you can download all of your Posterous Spaces including your photos, videos, […]
Have you ever wanted to install WordPress on Heroku? Well, now you can with a simple buildpack developed by MChung. Wait a second you say – isn’t Heroku for Ruby applications? Ah, you must have missed out on the Celadon Cedar stack which makes this much easier to do. You can, as a developer, install and run any language or choice if you’d like. Tada! It’ll use the following stack:
It’s hard to come up with creative titles for a growing industry that we want to cover this year – in other words, I believe that managed hosting is going to see a huge growth spike this year as more and more WordPress consultants, theme shops, and independent providers launch their own managed hosting solutions. And we want to continue to canvas and notify you guys of the new services that launch – but most of them, at this point in time, aren’t doing anything “out of the ordinary” or appear to be doing anything necessarily innovative. That’s not a bad […]
Can you tell how excited Collis Ta’eed is to announce his new little startup project within the confines of Envato? Yeah, it’s pretty obvious. This new initiative, Microlancer, is still very much underwraps for the time being but they’ve made the big announcement so as to get feedback as well as other excited individuals to sign up for the beta. What is the service? It doesn’t take a genius to guess: Microlancer is going to be a new way for freelancers to connect with buyers who are interested in getting small-scale creative jobs done simply, transparently, safely and quickly. We […]
This exact question was brought up here on WordPress sub-Reddit: Like I said in the title, two dear friends just passed away, and their travel blog is now in limbo. I know that they hosted it themselves (godaddy, I think) and that recently they had problems with some malicious code issues. The websites front page is up but many links to deeper pages are not working. Does anyone know of a way that their page can be protected from further attacks and preserved/memorialised… Anyone here have knowledge of this? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks T Ps I can dig out more […]
